The Surface Collection distills our enduring exploration into the fluid dynamics between the digital images and physical objects, the tangible and the conceptual. The collection engages in a sophisticated discourse on the liminal space between material solidity and digital surface, and the mutable relationship between an artifact and its context.
Baroque polymath Leibniz famously wrote: "la nature ne fait jamais des sauts," translating to "nature has no jumps." In the realm of Baroque calculus, both time and space are conceived as continuous, devoid of abrupt ruptures. This form of calculus, existing in the abstract, operated with a theoretical material that was smooth, isotropic, and consistent—an idealization that did not exist in reality at the time. Stainless steel, invented in the 19th century, approximates this abstract material, embodying the qualities of smoothness and uniformity. Digital simulation today utilizes infinitely pliable, homogeneous abstract surfaces, reminiscent of the theoretical surfaces of Baroque calculus, thus continuing the legacy of this abstract, continuous material in a modern context.

Digital objects of surface collection, actualized in mirror-polished stainless steel, dissolve the lines between the object and its surroundings. Consisting of sculptures that double as functional articles—coffee table, chair and a side table—the collection challenges perceptions of materiality, capturing the dynamism of undulating surfaces in a moment of stasis, inviting the viewer to consider the fluid nature of our entangled world.
